The problem with modern man isn’t that he’s evil. Quite the opposite. In general, for practical reasons, he prefers to be nice. It’s just he hates being bored. Boredom terrifies him… Nothing has changes since Pascal’s days: man is still trying to run away from his fears by distracting himself. It’s just now that the distractions have become so ubiquitous that they’ve taken God’s place. Hedonism isn’t a humanism; it’s a cash flow. ‘I spend, therefore I am.’ But in order to create a need I have to arouse jealousy, pain and dissatisfaction: they are my weapons.
